Ask the Tropers:
openI'm worried
Normally, I wouldn't be doing this, since I'm not seeking for any attention, but I think I should break the silence now: I'm currently adding a lot of FNF mods' pages and putting them into the main game's fan works page (and also in other proper pages so they could get attention). During last year, I was getting some users helping me fill those pages. Sometimes the mod wasn't so famous, so tropers weren't appearing in those rare cases, but I didn't mind that at all, plus every person has their rights to choose what they want to do.
One day, now in 2024, I've created the page for Glitched Legends, a popular Pibby mod in the community. While I was thinking on other mods to add and working in other stuff at TV Tropes, I've been noticing the page hasn't been having anything new; no corrections, no examples, nothing. I wasn't thinking too much about it, then. "Maybe it's because it's a Pibby mod. Even if it's a high-quality mod, Pibby mods are oversaturated, so maybe not many people are into it". Then I've been created other pages: Vs Slenderman, Funkin In The Massacre Night, Friday Night Funkin' - V.S Chara, and so on. None of them have been updated ever since.
I don't want to make any publicity here, or force anything to anybody, since like I said, anyone can choose if they want to help or just see those pages, but I'm genuinely worried. I've been patient for two months now, and I'm not receiving any help from other users. Even Roastin' on a Cartoon Cartoon Friday, probably my most elaborated page during these months, only had one foreign edit, and it was only a little correction. Are my pages not causing any interests? Am I getting some bad reputation for something?
I'm sorry for creating this whole Wall of Text, but I wanted to explain myself clearly.
Edited by UzarNaimBer15openRunning into an interesting issue with a page split
The Characters / League of Legends: K is getting pretty big and in need of a split, but I ran into a problem: Right now based on the characters listed, I would like there to be a clean split of "Ka-" and "Ke- to Ko-" characters, but there's an outlier with K'Sante, who by alphabetical considerations is meant to come very first and precedes "Ka-".
He belongs on that page along with "Ka", but considering there's an apostrophe in his name, how exactly do I format their shared page? Should it just be "Characters / League of Legends: K to Ka"?
Also, should I leave the latter page as just "Ke- to Ko-" for right now, leaving out potential for there being a character whose name starts with Ku- or Ky- down the line?
openAvoiding an edit war
Joylock un-commented out some examples on Characters.Fallout 1 that were commented out for being Zero Context Examples, which I ended up commenting out again after sending them a notifier. They ended up expanding on said examples, but they're still IMO Partial Context Examples at best but I don't want to get into an edit war by commenting them out again.
openIUEO was added back/add reasons to IUEO page?
YMMV.Ninja Turtles The Next Mutation had a Dude, Not Funny! pothole I removed as In-Universe Examples Only added back by a separate troper than who first added it. Permission to re-remove?
Also, I see Administrivia. No Real Life Examples Please and other indexes list why they are such, which Administrivia. In Universe Examples Only currently doesn't. Maybe it should list them and that would help prevent misuse, non in-universe examples in the future?
openWeird Edit Removal Reason Western Animation
On YMMV.Dexters Laboratory Walt K removed this entry
- Self-Fanservice:
- Dexter and Mandark get a lot of this in fanart.
- Dee Dee gets her fair share of this, especially when most artists think she'll take after her mom. It doesn't help that Dexter once described Dee Dee as "her hips a bit meaty".
they removed it with the edit reason "inappropriate" (presumably meaning "sexualizing characters from a children’s series is inappropriate")
Whether you agree with them or not, YMMV is just troping Audience Reactions, and we’ve had other Self-Fanservice entries from kids shows. Even if it is "inappropriate" we’re just troping what fans believe. Is this ok, or should I add it back?
resolved Edit War?
So, I am unsure on this but YMMV.Dead Boy Detectives 2024:
- Shanwooo 444 added anUnintentionally Unsympathetic entry mentioning "despite him never being anything other than kind and patient with her".
- I removed that sentence in my attempt to make the entry more neutral and fix some grammar mistakes.
- Shanwooo 444 re-added that phrase almost word for word.
I mean like I said I am unsure if this is an edit war. They didn't discuss this anywhere and this is not the first time they have done this, but I was thinking on re-adding that part anyways as it reads weird without it. However, even then I am unsure if it counts but that is for a different discussion. Is this an edit war?
Edited by BullmanopenCan Complete Monsters/Magnificent Bastards, etc go in Just For Fun?
I recently created a JFF page for a fictional show meant to be like Tales From the Crypt known as Symphony in Black, meant to be adapted from some of EC Comics. I noticed an MB entry of EC Comics' YMMV page, and said character would appear in Symphony In-Universe. Would I be able to do something like that on the page, or do those only apply to real works?
openWhat should be done with this page
The page for Brady Noon is a mess and stud. The person who made it hasn't edited since February. I am unsure what to do as I am not familiar with his work beyond two films.
openMass violation of Administrivia policy on Peter and Company. Webcomic
The author of Peter and Company, who goes by the username PeterAndCompany, I'm pretty sure just violated The Fic May Be Yours, but the Trope Page Is Ours and Auto-Erotic Troping.
I quote the following from the former:
- You may contest factual information and either make the changes or ask others to change it for you, as long as you are polite and respect consensus.
- You may inform us that your work has been removed and made permanently inaccessible to the public, in which case we may consider deleting our article(s). This requires agreement from the troper body.
- You may request removal of content that you believe is hostile or defamatory towards yourself or your work, but we hold final discretion as to what falls into those categories.
Nowhere have I seen the author do this at all; as far as I can tell, they also did not go to any of the cleanup pages. They instead gave a lengthy edit reason stating that they are the author in an attempt to justify their vandalism of the page, which as Edit War states, is not sufficient discussion; Essentially he is trying to claim ownership of the page.
He has also gone on the trivia page and the YMMV page to do the exact same thing, moreso with the latter especially on parts that have to do with the main webcomic itself, and has also engaged in Auto-Erotic Troping on this paticular edit and possibly the Main page. Admin has not indicated to me that he had the permission needed to take down what I wrote or the right to make the edits he made (the latter of which had nothing to do with removing misinformation on the Trivia page) either, so I'm on high alert with this.
He has also done the following which is something authors are not supposed to do, especially in regard to YMMV. I quote the following:
- You may not remove content from our articles on the basis that you disagree with it or do not like it.
I am open to input from the community and admin on this matter as to what can, should, or if anything can be done.
Edited by Stardust5099openEnglish Premier League vs. British Footy Teams?
I recently did a large edit on the British Footy Teams Useful Notes page to smarten it (or at least the folders on the Home Nations and FA teams) up, and I realized that I essentially copied the quick statistics and crests from the English Premier League. I'm now scratching my head and wondering how much the two pages need to overlap before they should be merged or redistributed (e.g. moving info from the EPL page to the Footy Teams page, or perhaps spinning info from both into a third "English FA Teams" page)?
It's worth noting that while the statistics/images were (largely) taken from the EPL page, there are a number of teams not mentioned on the EPL page, and the info under the line in each team is different between the pages.
Is there a protocol/precedent for this kind of situation?
Edited by DancouMaryuuopenSuspect edits regarding trans stuff
So troper Chef Cranky Rogan has made some edits regarding trans people that are potentially concerning.
- In here and here, they make a mention of Shiki Aoki being a non-op trans man.
- In here here, they listed Brandon Winckler (a non-binary actor) as an aversion to Cross-Dressing Voices simply because he uses he/they pronouns.
- In here, they commented out a Cross-Dressing Voices entry regarding another non-binary VA (Giselle Fernandez) with this edit reason:
I brought this troper up before here, so the fact that they making edits like this despite being called off by people on the thread is really concerning to me.
Edited by Ayumi-chanopenFic's recommendations in other languages
Hello Tropers! I wanted to ask about the recommendations for Fanfics written in non-English speaking languages. Are they put in a specific place? Or are they simply not posted here? The doubt comes from the page's policy of not allowing posts in other languages.
openTropes on Hand Jumper Webcomic
I'm very new to TV Tropes wiki-making and wanted to make a page on the webcomic "Hand Jumper" but saw that the page was previously deleted. I'd like to start it up again but first may I get some permission so I don't do anything wrong?
Edited by wingedcatgirlresolved Edit war
On this page, deerhornsaresopretty added an entry for The Wiki Rule. After it was removed by a different troper for being a definition-only page (meaning that it's not allowed to have trope entries about it), deerhornsaresopretty added it back.
Edited by UFOYeahopenVandal messing with kids' shows again Western Animation
TearJerker.Peppa Pig was just made by Jakob10 that consists of "*Mummy Rabbit sprained her ankle. *Mummy Sheep has a cough."
openPossible edit war
On YMMV.Touken Ranbu Warriors (and it's previous name Touken Ranbu Musuo):
- Troper biggestSoap added an Esoteric Happy Ending entry on its previous name before I moved it.
- I removed it, citing this comment on the "Is this an Example" thread".
- Soap added it again (albeit rewritten) on the new named page.
I'm not sure if edit warring counts when a page is moved from its original language title to one that is officially localized so I wish to know.
Edited by Ayumi-chanopenIs this walkthrough mode
I found this on Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes and I'm unsure if it is walkthrough mode.
- Easy Level Trick: The easiest way to recruit Hogan, who requires you to earn 50,000 Baqua of profit solely by buying/selling items at the Trade Depot, is buying as much trading items as possible before talking to him to initiate his side quest. That way, players can just run towards the nearby trading post and sell everything that can be traded to easily get him.
openTeam-Up Series question
I’m having an issue regarding Team-Up Series. Apparently the trope is only used when one character teams up with another character each issue/episode, not the same person throughout the series.
My question is even if it’s the same person would being a team up still count? For example Superman/Batman. The series is a literal team-up between Superman and Batman, but doesn’t fit the team-up series trope. Is a second trope for when the main draw of a series is that two characters are teaming up?
Is it possible for one troper to give more than one hat or bomb to a draft in the Launch Pad? If yes, what happens then?
On a related note, what happens when the same troper gives both a hat and a bomb to one draft? Do they cancel each other out?
