* RoboticPsychopath: It might be in denial about the degree to which its psychology maps onto the organic creatures it despises, but the Contingency frequently demonstrates that, far from the [[BlueAndOrangeMorality coldly-logical]], dispassionate, NecessarilyEvil impartial machine arbiter it likes to present itself as, the great machine intelligence is a sadistic maniac full of personality and all-too human failings.

* WellIntentionedExtremist: They are trying to wipe out organic and synthetic life because [[spoiler:their creators, a machine intelligence called the Ren-Miruu, believed that sufficiently advanced civilizations are at risk of evolving into a universe-destroying cataclysm called a "class-30 singularity"... and given [[ApocalypseHow what can happen]] if an empire completes and activates the Aetherophasic Engine, [[TheExtremistWasRight they may not have been wrong]].]]

[[NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist The Contingency has just gone very dangerously insane]].

the ''Nemesis'' expansion, these ships are provided to any civilization that decides to "Become DLC, the Crisis" and advances to the final stage of that event. They are immensely powerful in combat and can annihilate entire star systems... but if they are destroyed, rest of the galaxy will eventually declare war upon them to protect all life from the power-mad empire. To sustain a war on every front, the Crisis civilization will be hard-pressed Aspirant invests in the development of cheap warships to continue its plans.defend their core systems until their ultimate project is complete.\\
\\
These ships come in the form of the Menacing corvettes, destroyers and cruisers that are unlocked with the second, third and fourth Crisis stage respectively. While they are weaker than their regular counterparts, they are produced with minerals instead of alloys and function as easily replaceable support for the empire's main fleets and Star-Eaters.

* QuantityVsQuality: The quantity to the Cosmogenesis' quality ships. The Menacing ships may be overall weaker, but they are cheap to produce for building massive fleets quickly and have low upkeep costs. The ship build speed buff you get with the Galactic Nemesis path supports this further.
* WeHaveReserves: How you are meant to view them. Menacing ships can be easily replaced as long as you keep your mineral income in the green, which is important since they are ideal escorts for your far more valuable Star-Eaters.

!!Horizon Needle
Introduced in ''The Machine Age'' expansion, the Horizon Needle is the ultimate creation of an empire that has become a "Cosmogenesis" crisis. It is a megastructure in the form of a ship that is meant to carry the population of the Crisis Aspirant into a new universe.
----
* EscortMission: To an even greater degree than the Star-Eaters. The Horizon Needle can take quite a beating, but unlike the Star-Eaters it has absolutely no weapons to defend itself with. Your fleets have to protect it while it flies from colony to colony to pick up their pops, ending at your empire capital, from where it then either has to fly into a black hole or complete a year-long special project.
* MeaningfulName: The Horizon Needle has a thin, needle-like ship design (or as thin as a mobile megastructure can be anyhow) and is designed pierce the event horizon of a black hole. Or alternatively, it is meant to carry the civilization that created it into the horizons of a new universe.
