Before I head off again, my character now has a page.
As for the bugs, the only one I've encountered so far is the FFXIV Login.exe error, which makes me have to close the FFXI Vboot manually to get into the game. It appears to be pretty rare, though, and might be an XP only issue.
Groovy. I think mine's at http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/rc/character/top?cicuid=1507513
I also friendlisted ya, though I'm not sure if it's a two way thing or what.
As did I, so it probably won't be a problem there. :P
Welp...couple thoughts.
A) As someone who's worked on the periphery of software development, I'll tell you right now. The overrriding rule of any major company with the possible exception of Blizzard is, "Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly"
The financial mechanics are all built around getting it "good enough" to start charging for it, and then using that income to further development. That's just the way it is for the VAST majority of software development, an it's unlikely to change. You can dislike it, you can whine about it, you can point to the very rare exceptions, but that doesn't change it from being the reality in most cases. As such, it's not something I get bent over. I've played most of the major mmo's from EQ on and my experience with FF 14 is about middle of the road, I've seen better, I've seen worse.
B) Square appears to have designed the game primarily to run on the ps3 console, and their client menus, controlls etc all feel like they are built around that. Which drives me nuts, but it is what it is. I'd like to see movement from holding both mouse buttons, I'd like to see more reactive controls instead of an awkward joystick sensibility plastered onto a keyboard.
C) Dear lord it's pretty. And lovingly crafted from an atmospheric standpoint. And it sounds good. etc etc etc
D) SE has wavered a bit on the whole self flagellating Japanese gamer sensibility. You can actually solo pretty effectively. Groups are better, but it's night and day compared to FF 11.
E) The VAST majority of gear coming from player crafting combined with a lack of auction house is an absolute gut punch and damn near unforgivable. This is THE sticking point for me and if it doesn't get fixed will be the reason I leave in a huff as opposed to gradually fading away somewhere down the line. Literally the most difficult and time consuming activity in the game right now is shopping. I cannot articulate how much this pisses me off. Yes, I could craft my own crap. No, I don't want to right now.
Take away: It's pretty, it's fun. There's enough here to keep me interested for a time. There are things that frustrate me as well. Time will tell if these are a function of design philosophy or just things they haven't gotten around to polishing yet.
All free trials are being extended by a month, which I certainly can't complain about. Lots of talk about upcoming changes, with December supposedly being when the big version update will come. They say they're shooting for a three month schedule, with major updates on that time frame.
what's supposed to come with that December one is notorious monsters, new levequests which include them, buncha other stuff.
It's the extra month though that pleases me.
That is nice. It's a good way to improve their PR, certainly.
o-o Wow, guy must have been rich fan or something.(I mean, you'd think that normal people would just try to leech more money.. Lots of fans do buy Square-Enix's games either way...)
It was the Mother of All Rage Quits. :)
Jonah FalconBastard not only Ragequitted, he got PAID for that. I wish I could get paid for doing that.

Looks like they're moving in the right direction.
Especially happy with the synthesis changes.
Reading that link's comment section I can't help but notice...people considered Final Fantasy 12 a failure? Isn't that the one that took place in Ivalice?...the one with all the Vieras?
I thought that game did pretty well...I mean, I even loved the spinoff game Revenant Wings.
Don't tell me people are letting their perceptions of FF 14 and 13 leak into all the other FF titles.
For me, the only problem with Final Fantasy is that it's just getting too sci-fi with each game. I think Final Fantasy...6 I think was the perfect amount of technology/magic and swords... "Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."
Well, XIV isn't the least bit sci-fi...
And FFXII seems to have been a love it or hate it game. Then again, so does every Final Fantasy game, especially when you pretty much cannot bring up the series without being told Final Fantasy Such And Such is utter shit and you suck for playing it.
I don't even like Final Fantasy and that gets on my nerves.

Well I'm pretty sure that FF 3 and FF 7 was mostly universally liked...atleast there are barely any people who thought those games were bad. And no, people disliking a game just because they don't like the fanbase/don't like jrpgs/just because it's a FinalFantasy game doesn't count.
Only the people who's played the game have any right in judging if they're good or not...and so far a huge portion of Final Fantasy Hate Dumb are people who never played the ones they're complaining about...and disliking something because of the fanbase is stupid.

"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."Well, I'm not particularly fond of FFVII, for both story and gameplay reasons. I've never really like the stories of the Final Fantasy games, with the exception of the original Tactics, which wasn't anything like the rest of the series.
I own, have subscribed, and play some of the game. Sadly, the Fan Backlash and spending too much time at Final Fantasy XIV Core, made me take a break from Video Gaming for a whole week. And then still very little of the game lately, because my mood and fun has just been so fouled by the mood. And of course I haven't gone back to the site since. They are absolutely unapologetically hateful to the game and anything Square Enix might do to improve it.
I'm really wanting to start back up soon, but every time I think of trying to get back in, I start to get those bothersome images of everyone who hates the game and people who play it back in my head. I feel genuinely alienated by it's userbase and playerbase right now. And that's harmful to enjoying an MMORPG. The userbase has done more to destroy my enjoyment of the game and the money I payed for it, than anything Square Enix has done.
I am going to keep playing the game, and lament that I had money and one of the possibly best experiences of my decade ruined by "fans". But I needed to take a break from it's playerbase. They are... truly miserly and hard to enjoy Video Gaming around. I don't even know what else to say. I'd like to say something hateful, to get relief.
Genkidama for Japan, even if you don't have money, you can help![1]With yet another free month I may talk myself into trying again, but I just get frustrated trying to upgrade gear. I just want some dang shoes at this point, but I'm having no luck finding any of the level 11'ish ones. With any luck the bazaar search will be part of the November update, though I'm not sure since they didn't mention it in the update summary thing.
^They're also seriously improving the crafting system as well, so it'll be easier to make gear.
^^Yep. I understand being frustrated, but both the 'fandom' and the hatedom have really reached a point of wankery that reminds me why I'm beginning to hate associating myself with 'gamers'.
I just want to run around with my catgirl and have her fists be lodged into the skulls of large mammals. I'd appreciate if everybody would stop doing everything in their power to fuck that up for me.
Those complainers and doomsayers are the reason the game is going into its third free month of play.
Just sayin'.
I wish my computer was strong enough to run the game, else I'd actually give it a try...I remember seeing a Giant Enemy Crab in a let's play...
Anyways, isn't the point of MMORPG supposed to start off crappy and then get better and better as more patches are applied to it? That's what I figured from my experience with other MMO's.
^ what is...what in the world is that?!
"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."
I liked the analysis Marz Gurl gave on the game in its current state. It actually seems like something that I'd wanna play... if I could afford it. Granted, it still has plenty of room to improve, but what else are pre-gold states for?
