Trivia.Mega Man 8 has a Franchise Killer entry that I find questionable:

Now, as the entry itself states, the Mega Man (Classic) series did have one more entry that came out after 8 before the series went on hiatus. Additionally, I've never heard of anything saying that 8 was the main reason for said series hiatus, as the game's reception at the time of release was generally mixed-to-positive. If anything, the reason for the Classic series hiatus was more likely the result of Capcom shifting focus to the various Mega Man sequel and spinoff series after 8's release.

I'm bringing these examples up from Trivia.Ren And Stimpy Adult Party Cartoon:

  • Creator Killer:
    • The revival's failure was the beginning of the end for John Kricfalusi's animation career. Carbunkle Cartoons sued Spümcø into bankruptcy for years of unpaid work, and by the time of its 2008 settlement, he had burned so many bridges with his poor attitude and general lack of professionalism that the only work he could get for the next decade were odd jobs like music videos and TV bumpers for networks like [adult swim]. The negative rumors about his work ethic caught up to him, with the disastrous production of his crowd-funded indie short Cans Without Labels being seen as the ultimate proof. The tactless, narcissistic content of his infamous blog didn't help his personal reputation either. When Katie Rice and Robyn Byrd called him out for statutory rape in 2018, you could almost hear the entire industry breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that they now had an alibi to wash their hands of him forever.
    • The combined failures of this show, Gary the Rat, and Stripperella all but sent Spike TV's adult-animation block into a premature death.
  • Franchise Killer: The series' very poor reception and abrupt cancellation put the kibosh on the franchise for nearly two decades. Adult Party Cartoon left such a bad impression that when a Nicktoons crossover film was in development a decade later, those with knowledge of the project outright stated that Paramount didn't want Ren and Stimpy acknowledged in any way, shape, or form. Even a two-minute short starring the characters to be produced as a companion piece for the second (or third, depending on the source) SpongeBob movie, got the axe by higher-ups after being ordered. It took 17 years before Nickelodeon decided to reboot the original series, without any involvement by John Kricfalusi.
  • Genre-Killer: The critical and commercial failure of the series killed any attempts of companies pitching adult-oriented revivals of children's shows until the final season of Samurai Jack, which was released in 2017 to critical and commercial success. Even then, most projects are either parodies of obscure, forgotten properties or serious, more mature continuations with restraint to its adult content.

Any thoughts?

I think the Creator Killer entry for John K. and the Franchise Killer entry are fine to stay. The Creator Killer entry for Spike TV's animation block is more contentious, since all the shows on their block are listed. It's more that their animated shows all just flopped out of the gate, and the couldn't recover from that. The Genre-Killer entry can probably go, since I don't recall there being a lot of adult reboots of children's shows around the early 2000s. Can anyone actually name an example from that time aside from Adult Party Cartoon?

Also, I found this example on Trivia.Mystery Science Theater 3000 The Movie:

  • Creator Killer: The disagreements between Joel and executive producer Jim Mallon over even doing the film led to the former's departure from the show.

~Amour Mitts

  • For the first example, the gap between 2007 and 2011 seems a little short to say something "killed" someone's career—I'd say it can go, but I'd wait for other opinions first.
  • For the second example, Trivia can't be "Played With", so at the very least "Downplayed" can go. Can't speak for the veracity of the claim however as I know little about Bratz.
  • For the third example, I'd say cut. "Theatrical films based on dolls" isn't a genre, and I wouldn't say it's a trend (which would fit Trend Killer) either as there isn't a defined period of when the "trend" began or ended.

Hope I was of help.

Trivia.Yoshis New Island only has one entry for Franchise Killer, and I have to question its validity.

  • Franchise Killer: Not for Yoshi as a whole, but there hasn't been a proper Yoshi's Island game since New Island's release, likely due to the game's negative reception. Yoshi's Woolly World and Crafted World notably take more after the health bar-based Yoshi's Story rather than the baby-escorting mechanics of the original.

Two things. First of all, as the entry itself states, there have been multiple Yoshi games since the release of New Island, so the franchise itself is still around. Second, even if we were just going by games with Yoshi's Island in the title, the others before this one also had notable sequel gaps (Yoshi's Island DS came out roughly eleven years after the original, and New Island came out roughly eight years after that).

If the entry isn't valid, is it safe to send the page to the Cut List?

I want to ask about the validity of this entry for Licence to Kill:

  • Franchise Killer: The film seemed to do this for a while. With inflation in account, it's the lowest grossing film in the franchise. The marketing for the movie was subpar at best (it's to date, the last Bond movie to be released during summer). It was one of the most polarizing Bond movies at the time due to its decidedly Darker and Edgier, Miami Vice-influenced plot (especially considering the Lighter and Softer Roger Moore era was still fresh in the general public's mind). There wouldn't be a new Bond movie released for 6½ years (the longest such delay in franchise history), mostly due to litigation from 1990-1993 between the co-owners on the sale of television licensing rights. The film has been held in better regard over time, however.

Everything here is basically true, but it overlooks that the more important reason the Bond series went on hiatus was because of a legal battle (MGM was purchased by someone who tried to sell the James Bond television rights on the cheap, EON sued, and no film could be made in the meantime). Just about every source says that a third Dalton film (usually thought to be called Portrait of a Lady) was ready to begin pre-production regardless of how Licence to Kill performed. Should this entry be cut?

I found this on Trivia.Gathering Of Developers (which, as a Trivia page for a creator, shouldn't exist). Before I move the entries to the main page, I wanted to make sure if this entry is valid:

  • Creator Killer: Sure, Take Two's uncertain finacial situation in 2004 meant the company were probably on a borrowed time anyway, but the fiasco involving The Guy Game certainly did not help matters.

I'm inclined to believe it's not valid, since the first sentence mentions another reason for the company's closure.

I found this entry on Trivia.Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn:

  • Franchise Killer: While it didn't effectively kill Fire Emblem as a whole, Radiant Dawn wounded up becoming the finale nail in the coffin for Home Console main series Fire Emblem games. This was largely due to the poor sales of the game, and was responsible for starting the series' fall from grace. Even Awakening, which, despite preventing the series from being shelved, wasn't enough to bring the main series back to home consoles, with the only home console games released during this period were Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE and the Switch version of Fire Emblem Warriors, and even then, these games are just spinoffs that had a polarizing reception from the fanbase. It would only be 12 years later when the main series finally returned to home consoles with Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

Do you we should keep or cut it?

[up][up] Agreed. It can probably go.

[up] I don't consider "Fire Emblem games on consoles" to be a franchise in and of itself. Seems a bit shoehorn-y to me. Cut.

Heads up, this year's E3 was just cancelled. This pretty much confirms that E3 is pretty much dead in the water at this point, mind if I add an entry?

I'd personally wait a year to see how the attempts to get an E3 2024 off the ground go, since the letter announcing the cancellation of this year's expo has them still be hopeful for "future E3 events". While the past few years have been bad for the trade show, this is the first time they've stated it was cancelled purely because no one wanted to go. Previous cancellations were explicitly or at least nominally due to COVID-19.

Here's my attempt:

  • Creator Killer: It's hard to tell when E3 was beginning to die out, but it's commonly agreed that a one-two punch series of disasters landed the final blow to it, which was a controversy involving an accidental leak of over 2,000 attendees who were in E3 2019, resulting in them being doxxed and a class-action lawsuit against them, and the COVID-19 pandemic alongside the Game Awards being a more suitable substitute for major game announcements made things worse, with the final nail in the coffin for them being E3 2021, which saw almost no presentation from all major gaming companies involved, and the ones that were shown had been known prior to E3 2021. The massive fallout from these resulted in a mass exodus from gaming companies to focus on their own independent presentations to showcase future games and E3 2022 being cancelled the following year, and just when E3 2023 was going to be a thing, the lack of participation from the major gaming companies resulted in that being cancelled as well, and while they did "hope for future events", this essentially had many confirmed that E3 had officially signed it's death warrant, rather than restoring confidence.

I think it's too early to write this entry. E3 isn't actually dead yet, just on hiatus.

From GenreKiller.Music

  • In that vein, Styx's 1983 album Kilroy Was Here seems to have been the final nail in the coffin for the Rock Opera and Concept Album (no successful examples of which had come out since Pink Floyd's The Wall four years earlier, anyway). It took twenty years for another rock opera concept album, Green Day's American Idiot in 2004, to enjoy massive success. Though concept albums remained popular in Progressive Metal for a while longer, such as Queensrÿche's Operation: Mindcrime. Rock operas also still exist within Heavy Metal, running the gamut in terms of quality. Ironically, the album postulates a world where rock and roll is dying as a genre, but because of external pressure from moral guardians and politicians rather than internally from creative stagnation and fading cultural relevance and popular interest.

If no successful Concept Albums had come out since The Wall, did Kilroy Was Here really kill the Concept Album?

Bumping to add this:

Anyone opposing?
