So Bad It's Horrible Cleanup

Go To

So Bad, It's Horrible is one of the more flame-bait-y parts of the site, so a cleanup thread is needed to ensure that works aren't added simply because someone doesn't like them.

If you want to list a work under this, keep the following in mind:

  • The work must have very few fans or defenders (both genuine and ironic). It should fail to appeal to any type of audience.
  • Being offensive in its subject matter isn't enough.
  • It isn't horrible just because a certain critic disliked it, though their reviews can be used as sources and citations.
  • The work should have notably poor reviews (e.g., less than 3/10 on IMDb, or single digit scores on Rotten Tomatoes)
  • Please be polite while writing and as much as possible, avoid falling into Complaining About Shows You Don't Like. Instead, focus on explaining why the work is horrible.

There's 2 Toys entries that I feel don't qualify. One is Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer's toyline as while it isn't considered the best toyline, the review I watched did praise some of the figures in it and wasn't completely negative. The other is G.I. Joe Extreme as I did find some people saying they enjoyed the figures as kids and had fond memories of them.

I found very few people liking the Good Times animated reboot.

I have another game that I was thinking of adding that being: Waifu Impact. To the shock of many "Waifu Impact" is not a very good game. The game tries to rip off the Genshin Impact style by having a similar name and background, but the game plays nothing like it. The character designs are all very generic, all the girls have similar body types so there's not much difference between them. The hair also frequently clips through their models, and the girls also clip through the floor sometimes. All the enemies use the same character model and laughing voice clip, and there is no reward for killing them, they also respawn if you switch characters meaning that you can instantly die while switching. While the characters all wield different weapons, you don't know the abilities of each one until you unlock them, so you could waste an unlock on a crappy weapon. The map is also quite bland, with it possibly being an asset flip map and being very barren. You can go in the water, but the water is flat with no swimming or drowning. Platforming can be difficult due to bad controls and clipping. Lastly, the unlockable pictures are disappointing since they are just the ingame character models and not very sexy. (though the PC one has nudity so they might be better in that version) Even people who don't mind fanservice games did not like this game since it's too boring and poorly made to be truly titaling. The only redeeming quality is an easy Platinum on Playstation and possibly the nudity on PC. (both of which the Switch port doesn't have) The game also got a 15 critic and 2.5 audience score on Metacritic so it's earned its reception. I could see some saying that this game would violate the content policy but considering the console version is T for Teen rated I assume it's fine.

Someone added a Pot Hole to Epic Fail in the IMDb rating for 2025: The World Enslaved By a Virus. It's my understanding that Epic Fail is NRLEP and this would be a violation of that.

Agreed, the pothole should be cut. Maybe Medal of Dishonor like some other pages use, or nothing at all.

As much as I hate to say it, I found an article proclaiming the London 2012 Olympics logo one of the best logos of the 2000s. What should we do? For what it's worth, even though the guy quoted as singing its praises is a "branding expert", I don't believe his claim that people apparently warmed up to the logo over time - it's pretty damn near-universally panned.

Looks like somebody split the Animation Studios folder on Animated Films into two, one for Mockbusters and the other for everything else. I don't recall doing such a thing being discussed on here, so should we revert the edit or just keep it?

[up] I'm neutral on it. The folder is certainly long enough to stand on its own.

In general, I'd prefer mockbusters being separate from other movies (not just animated, but live action too) because you'd expect the latter to have quality control that even well received mockbusters wouldn't bother with.

Alrighty, I figure we'll keep it as is then.

It does make sense anyway, yeah. I just figured that I should bring it up here since the split happened without any discussion, just in case anybody thought it wasn't okay to do that.

[up][up] I'd go so far as to say that Mockbusters should have their own subpage

Looking through the entries on other sub-pages, we have:

Admittedly, this list is shorter than I expected, but it seems that most of the movies I considered "Mockbusters" fit better under "cheap, DTV B-movies"

About the Good Times reboot, yeah. I think it's a prime candidate for this. I've watched a few episodes and couldn't even enjoy it ironically. It made me feel dirty. The animation is bad. The storylines are tiring and offensive. Heck, even the writing uses unoriginal material (and I'm not just talking about having a Recycled Script; one of the character's "motivation" was literally taken from a Dave Chappelle joke). And why did they feel the need to slap the Good Times name on it? Understandably (and unsurprisingly), many involved in the original series don't like the show and have publicly criticized it.

I can't deal with these forums; they anger up the blood too much.

Speaking of potential SBIH candidates gone viral, a recent advertisement for the latest iPad as posted on Tim Cook's Twitter account seems to be getting met with a metric fuckton of backlash from people that are horrified by the brutal imagery of various traditional arts, instruments, and other such things being destroyed to make way for the product being advertised (the intended message being the creative energy of the iPad). So far, I haven't seen a single positive comment on the matter, and Apple has outright been forced to apologize for the tone-deafness of their misguided marketing.

Sincerely, Lumberwood

I have seen a fair amount of defenders on Reddit, who say that the criticisms are overreacting and that even if you think the image is unpleasant, the intended meaning (that the iPad is versatile enough to fulfill the functions of all of these items combined) is still very easy to grasp.

Even those who don't defend the ad point out that it succeeds at invoking No Such Thing as Bad Publicity, where all of the people complaining about it just makes more people seek it out and watch it to see if it's really that bad, in the process informing some of them that a new model of iPad has been announced.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t actually know this cleanup thread existed until today.

Regarding the evidence presented that “Thirsty” by AJR isn’t as disliked by AJR fans as I stated, I don’t really like AJR, but I have talked to quite a few AJR fans, and most of them agree that “Thirsty” is awful. I drew the conclusion that the majority opinion among AJR fans is that that “Thirsty” really is that bad, but they just don’t acknowledge it very often, and that the song’s defenders are outliers. I could be wrong; there hasn’t exactly been a scientific study regarding the AJR fanbase’s opinion on the song, but as far as I can gather, yes, the song is unpopular with AJR fans.

Check out my current fanfiction project.

  • HeadOn, which is known for its infamously obnoxious ads, being deliberately unclear about its purpose but marketing itself as a homeopathic medicine, is almost entirely paraffin wax. You would get the same result applying a candle directly to your forehead, and you wouldn't be rubbing something made with a toxic plant extract on your skin — though as it's homeopathic, "made with" might be giving it too much credit. And the reason for its vague slogan and repetitive advertising is that since the product consists mostly of wax, it would be illegal for them to claim that it actually does anything.

While I don't believe in homeopathy, I question whether this example belongs here. Yes, it's an alternative medicine scam that works entirely on the placebo effect, but it doesn't sound any worse than any other homeopathic remedy. There are thousands of different products that make the same claims and do the same thing, and it'd be redundant to list all of them.

If HeadOn was directly harmful, there'd be more of a case for keeping it, but despite it supposedly containing toxic plant extracts (due to homeopathy running on the belief that "like cures like"), from what I hear, part of the process involves diluting it so much that you're unlikely to get more than a single molecule of plant matter.

Another argument for keeping it would be if it misled users into forgoing important treatment in favor of its unproven alternative medicine, but HeadOn is a only claims to treat headaches—a kind of ailment that's minor enough that relying on a placebo isn't going to cause any damage. It's not like it's telling cancer patients to skip chemo and use their sugar pills instead, which could kill people if they believed it.

I think HeadOn is known more for its awful ads (which are also listed), but there's other household products that are listed for essentially just not doing what they're advertised to do, not just making things worse. So maybe we should go through those as well?

[down] Oh huh, I guess we cut them because they were previously listed.
