New Chapter? New Chapter.

Basically a whole lot of prep (and eating!) and psyching up for our group's confrontation with the Dragon. Also, silly silly Marsilla. Don't you know what you just said was a flag?

Also probably the most aproposly-named cutlet recipe ever.

It's a good plan they have, but the fact that we know it means they're going to have to improvise

New month! New Chapter!

Well it looks like our intrepid group of heroes are finding out the hard way that no plan survives the battlefield intact. Also LOL a bit of Reality Ensues there Laius; of COURSE metal conducts heat evenly, adamantine included. And another LOL at the Mithril Knife.

Also this gold line: "THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH SWEARWORDS IN THE COMMON TONGUE TO USE RIGHT NOW!"

[up]Ah, yes, that is a common sentiment. I hear that German is a good backup language for when you run out of swear words. Japanese is pretty light on outright swears, meaning you have to get creative with your insults. I prefer Korean.

New chaaaapter!

Yeah, our boy Laius did good. For all the goofiness of the series itself, when push comes to shove, our dorky warrior can certainly be a badass when he wants to be. That said, he lost his leg, and the other two guys are knocked out, leaving Marcille as the only one anywhere near in one piece.

That said, the dragon's dead! Now they eat it... Well, probably after getting imouto's body out of the dragon's gullet first.

I really doubt that that's Farlyn's bones. They're probably gonna make a huge fuss over the bones thinking that they're Farlyn's, and then she's gonna crawl out and be all "wtf guys I'm not dead yet."

Nothing spells Dungeon Meshi better than having fun studying the human skeletal structure through your recently-deceased sister's bones retrieved from a red dragon's flame sac.

Also, new chapter on the horizon (and break until October), Marcille knows blood magic, and Farlyn is now running on dragon blood.

This chapter's "recipe" is Farlyn's skeleton.

What the fuck, Kui?

[up] Doesn't seem to be a complete Came Back Wrong kind of situation since she recognises them and doesn't appear to be like, a flesh-eating monster or anything. But unless the manga's ending in a couple chapters, something has most definitely gone wrong somewhere. Either because they used dragon flesh, or because Marcille messed up somewhere (her fainting seems to be a likely cause).

I doubt it'll be something like brain/soul damage that has rendered Farlyn incapable of stringing together proper sentences or doing stuff on her own, since it probably wouldn't be any fun having an invalid tagging along in like, a wheelchair or carriage, not to mention it'll be extremely inconvenient for our little group. Maybe dragons have their souls tied to the dungeon just like humans do, and in the process of resurrecting Farlyn using dragon flesh, Marcille inadvertently fused the dragon's and Farlyn's souls together or something like that. Though I can't see how that would work as an excuse for them to continue on their quest considering the kind of story this is, unless the ancient sorcerer that created the dungeon is capable of reversing the effects.

[up]It actually could be a soul mix-up. Notice that upon resurrection Farlyn has her left eye closed (the one the dragon got stabbed on) and touches her neck constantly. It can just be the side effect of coughing out the blood, though.

HanabiraKage Since: Oct, 2011

[up] Where would her soul be then? As far as we know, it doesn't seem like there's any way to actually contain a soul or place it back into a body once the bonds have been severed. And it's also implied that the bonds get weaker over time so...

Chapter update! Well, at least it looks like Farlyn hasn't been ensouled with the wrong soul entirely, but I think the "dragon's soul got blended in" interpretation is likely. The possibility of accidentally blending spirits was already brought up some chapters back, and Farlyn appears to be displaying above-normal capabilities after the resurrection.

Perhaps that elf discovering the remains of the circle is the plot hook for continuing the series...if our party gets branded as outlaws, they might be forced to hide deeper in the dungeon. Or they might need to protect Farlyn, who may have attained Living Mcguffin status.

Though I'm still unclear what exactly was so dark-magicky about the spell Marcille cast. Apart from apparently being more powerful than a standard resurrection spell, we haven't been told about any other side-effects it might have. Perhaps it has looser protections against soul-mixing than the standard rez spells?

One of the biggest problems of forbidden spells is when you forget why they were forbidden.

What identity gave that power? What was the meaning of the ritual words? Does the enchanter or the ressurrected owe someone or something anything? Before or after they die? Why Chilkchalk had the creeps when there was energy being gathered? Who is to say that the changes are all bonuses and that later something horrible won't arise?

Yeah, Marcille may be about to find out exactly why it was forbidden. Though really, if she was planning to do serious research on it, she really should have tried to find that out first...unless the reasons are so lost in antiquity that no one knows at this point.

I do feel kind of sad that Marcille never seems to be able to properly contribute though. She's tried to help the team quite a few times already, but it seems like she's never managed to accomplish anything genuinely useful without some kind of goof-up somewhere. (I suppose her freaking out and stunning all the treasure bugs did save them from a TPK at least...) And there seem to be too many monsters able to shake off her attacks (or she's unable to use her stronger spells on them for various reasons).

That's because that being a mage she is Too Awesome to Use. Powerfull bullets but only a few shots.

She did contribute. The kraken, healing and resurrecting, waterwalk.

Yeah, feels weird a black mage like Marcille is mostly relegated to support role in combat. Probably because her magic is too destructive so she can't use her too much else they won't be able to cook the ingredients.

[up]

Oh man, the fact that they forgot to erase the magic circle used to revive little sis is gonna bite them in the arse, isn't it? Doubly so since Farlyn is showing abnormal symptoms compared to anyone else just recently revived from the dead...

That said, my word, Marcille and Farlyn are sure touchy-feely together.

P.S. What a convenient dragon. Used for BOTH food and cooking. Hah.

[up]Yeah, when I saw the fire burning inside the dragon I immediately thought "yep, Senshi's gonna be cooking with that".

[up][up][up]Didn't the kraken just ignore her spell because of the cartilage layer? And she doesn't specialise in healing magic, so she gets outshadowed by other healers. (Edit: Oh right, she did do the water walk trick on the kraken, at least...but it wasn't her idea.)

[up][up] At least part of the circle is destroyed by the explosion. Hopefully that's enough to hide the original circle.

And yeah, Farlyn is...worrying. Marcille clearly concerned about her and "just forget that resurrection magic" part really makes us think she's not disclosing the full effect of the magic.

On another note, are they really going to eat Kensuke?

That dark elf might be related to the one that cursed the entire kingdom in the first place, if not the original herself. Secret of immortality after all. Seriously though, I loved all the tsukkomis over on Manga Here when they resurrected Farlyn. Dovahkiin!

The last couple chapters had definitely taken a darker turn, but now that Farlyn's back, it looks like it'll head back into it's old comical territory, albeit with a few shades of Ancient Conspiracy and whatever the consequences of resurrecting someone with dragon blood will be.
