Almost certainly that "Quality of Life" console Nintendo's been talking about.
You know, there's a difference between revealing and releasing a console.
I think they said this just so their investors won't be up in arms about Nintendo going down.
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more! How so? That just says that the account system will be compatible with their current hardware line as well as the upcoming NX, not that NX won't be a succesor of one of them.
Then again, we barely know anything about it; I say we wait.

"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."x4: They said that about the DS in relation to the Gameboy. Look how that turned out.
On Nintendo developing for the Mobile Market; Guys the writing has been on the wall for a while now. If you look over at how the Console Market have been fairing in Japan you'll noticed it's almost virtually dead. Even the 3DS market have lost more ground to Mobile than anyone cares to admit.
Nintendo developing for the mobile market is smart because it's a growing market they can't fight against. It's also been doing wonders for Square and Sega.
Oh, shit, they're going to do it.
They're actually going to desync from the regular timeline of video game console generations.
This is going to really mess up my The History Of Video Games collection of articles.
...and people are just going to ridicule Nintendo for "catching up", which is going to be even more horrible.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page. Those same people are typically the ones who always go on about how Nintendo should go out of business so that they can develop for Microsoft or Sony.
Provided that the NX (get NX or get out?) is a Wii U successor. There's a ton of possibilities that don't yet have anything conclusive yet.
I have a message from another time...nx.
i wish they'd called its nyx instead.
-sigh-
Codename NX. Doesn't make it the final name.
Regardless, whatever becomes of it, I'd see them making their next console and handheld as unified as possible.
Vote. .#Bayonetta 4 SmashThat's more or less confirmed. What's debated is whether the handheld and console will be the same device, a la PS Vita and Vita TV, or will be "brother" devices like iPhone and iPad, identical in architecture and OS, differing in form factor and horsepower.
At first I was upset that Nintendo's decided to make mobile games, but after hearing about the console gaming in japan (or lack thereof as mobile gaming over there is HUGE) i realized it's a smart business move—we'll still get games we like to play, and Japanese gamers will get mobile games that THEY like to play, and Nintendo will get money, which they like. XD
The Protomen enhanced my life.Keep in mind that the 3DS is legitimately healthy in Japan, if not as strong as the DS. It recently broke records in number of 2 million+ sellers in 6 months between Yokai Watch 2, Smash 3DS, Monster Hunter 4U, Pokemon ORAS, and Yokai Watch 2.5. The problem is that the 3DS is the only healthy dedicated device in Japan, and while the sheer willpower of Pokemon would probably be able to sell the successor, it's still declining overall.
Anyway, I agree with those that this is just assurance that Nintendo isn't abandoning hardware. This could be a handheld, console, or something else. I suspect this will be the debut of the Nintendo OS, but it'll be awhile until we learn anything concrete.
They might just be planning still. There was news about the PS 3 years before it was ever released after all. Development takes time.
I'm baaaaaaackIt'll probably be region locked, cost five hundred dollars, have wireless controller with a half hour battery life and add nothing to the game play experience besides higher pixel counts at the cost of longer load times.
Damnit! Every time I'm asleep some awesome shit happens.
Fucking timezones.
On topic, I'd like to know more about the Experiment (yes, that's what I'm gonna call it.). But, 365 days will have to make us wait. Grrrrr.
Sony in general likes to announce things a lot longer in advance than others. I too remember hearing about the CELL processor and what it was going to do for gaming as early as 2002. Nintendo teased the Wii in 2004, unveiled the Revolution in 2005, gave a full showing at E3 2006, launched holiday 2006.
This, then, is due no later than November 2017
And given the weak position of the Wii U, and weakness of the 3DS outside of Japan (compared to its predecessors), Nintendo might accelerate that timetable. I really don't see them having the software to take them through 2016, though this E3 could change my mind.
No earlier than 2017, you mean.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.So I dug up an article from about a year ago where Iwata said that he wants to easily integrate console and handheld development. Likely because of the 3DS's incredible library compared to the U's, this development could very well be a part of the NX (and it will be integrated with the rest of the other consoles).
Interesting…
On another note, I have the impression that Iwata literally had to fight his own company in order to get ideas through. That one interview with Dan Adelman seemed to have confirmed it, and later I read this article where Iwata outright stated that the people within corporate are too conservative for their own good. I wonder how much fighting had to be done to get to this point...
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.I bet a few roundhouse kicks and Direct hits.
Also.
NX will be an arcade board with Nintendo Network and amiibo capabilities.
Signatures are for lamers.Guys, before the Nintendo doomsaying starts in earnest, it's probably worth mentioning that the Gamecube and Wii both started early development three-ish years into the life of the previous console.
"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die."They brought up some good ideas on how their new mobile stuff could go. I personally would like to see them port Tomodachi to mobile. As for the NX, I'm gonna be the crazy theory guy and say it's virtual reality.
Or want to upgrade to the N 3 DS, have a good chunk of downloadable titles, and screw up the transfer process? Sorry bub, you can't access your Downloadable title's saved data!
Yep, that happened to me and I'm still not happy about it.
