Unfortunately, his actions [[DividedDeity split Solaris]] into two beings: Iblis (the raw power of Solaris) and Mephiles (the mind of Solaris). Iblis ended up having to be sealed in the Duke's daughter, Elise (under the condition that she must never cry or Iblis' wrath will be unleashed), while Mephiles was sealed in the scepter of darkness. Although the Duke didn't have bad intentions, he ultimately caused further destruction and pain for everyone, including his daughter.
