Might be a Literal Metaphor or Visual Pun for "hot enough to fry an egg".

That doesn't have to just be a pun or a gag — there's a skyscraper in London that lets you do that for real.
A visual gag - it's so hot, a character can put a frying pan on the ground and "fry" an egg in a few minutes.
