Web Video / Kingdom Hearts REMAKE

Go To

This reinterpretation[1] was created by Eli[2]. It has stronger ties to the Final Fantasy elements of Kingdom Hearts.

This reinterpretation contains examples of:

  • Accidentally Broke the MacGuffin: Pete attempted to steal the Cornerstone of Light, trapping everyone in a "Groundhog Day" Loop as soon as it broke.
Eli: Pete sneaks into the castle & takes the Cornerstone of Light [...] Pete slips & puts a crack in the Cornerstone [...] we then cut back to the morning of the Festival almost as if though nothing had ever happened. However, the residents of Disneytown have now been locked in a time loop.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade:
    • Aqua's time in the Realm of Darkness.
    • Namine, Roxas, Xehanort & Ansem's new backstories.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Ansem the Wise is renamed Diz.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Kairi gets her own game[3], along with Leon, Cloud, Tifa & Aerith.
  • Adapted Out:
    • Chaos becomes a God in Human Form trapped in a cycle of limited reincarnations[4] as punishment for living up to his name.
    • The events of Birth By Sleep took place 100 years before the first released game. The Realm of Darkness operates under a Time Dilation nature as a result of this.
Eli: This version of Birth by Sleep doesn't take place ten years before Kingdom Hearts I. It takes place one hundred years before Kingdom Hearts I [...] Aqua alludes to the fact that time moves differently in the Realm of Darkness, as compared to the Realm of Light. [...] that differential will be a rate of one to one hundred. So, for every one year in the Realm of Darkness, that's one hundred years in the Realm of Light.

    • Xehanort intends to use the Power of Waking (changed to a Selfless Wish) to bring his home world back, making him a Tragic Hero in his own eyes.
Eli: The Power of Waking uses the purest expression of light to bend both time & space. It allows Keyblade Masters to restore life to worlds ravaged by darkness. When a person dies, their heart returns to Kingdom Hearts. [...] The Power of Waking can redirect that heart & bring it back to the Realm of Light [...] there has to be a suitable vessel for the heart to return to [...] the Power of Waking must be used selflessly.
Eli: [...] Keyblades are sentient. While they don't communicate with words, over time, the wielder begins to sense & feel the will of their keyblade [..]
Eli: Xion interacts with others much more like a robot.
    • The Mirage Arena is repurposed for Kairi’s game[5].
    • The robes that Organization 13 wear act as a Security Blindspot, protecting them from Cosmos.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change:
    • The Ansem that possesses Riku is a Replica.
    • Roxas is a Replica of Ventus.
    • Namine is now a White Magician Girl Forced into Evil by Organization 13. Her world fell to darkness.
Eli: Namine comes from a world full of powerful mages.
  • Balance Between Good and Evil
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: Xion.
  • Darkest Hour: this occurs when Mickey tells Aqua how long she's been missing.
  • I Owe You My Life: Vanitas, to Xehanort.
  • Instant Emergency Response: Cid, Cloud & Aerith give Kairi an emergency beacon.
  • I Should Have Been Better: Roxas in Kingdom Hearts II[6].
  • Karmic Nod: As a result of activating the beacon, Kairi draws Gilgamesh to Destiny Islands, even though she wasn’t in danger from the Heartless.
Eli: As the two of them leave, Gilgamesh thanks the crowd for their cooperation & for being kind enough to broadcast a homing signal[...] realizing she's directly to blame for this situation, Kairi is rendered silent. She continues to march forward, believing her current predicament is a justified consequence.
  • Legacy of the Chosen: Sora, Vanitas, Gula, Aced, Ava, Ira & Invi are all Champions of Cosmos. All the abilities of the previous champions become a Status Buff for Sora.
  • Living on Borrowed Time: Vanitas.
Eli: Creating the Unversed causes his body to decay at an accelerated rate.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Xehanort.
  • Meaningful Name: Soul Eater.
  • Nasty Party: Chain of Memories[7].
Eli: It turns out that Xehanort had suspected there were traitors in the Organization for a while. In reality, he had no use for Sora or Riku. He simply believed that, by trapping them in the castle with the traitors, they would all destroy each other.

  • Near-Villain Victory: the beginning of Kingdom Hearts II[8].
  • Never Found the Body: Roxas in Kingdom Hearts II[9].
  • Percent-Based Values: Everyone has a certain percentage of light & darkness.
Eli: These [light & darkness] are both forms of energy & every living creature is comprised of some quantity of one or both of them.
  • Power at a Price: Sora & Vanitas. Vanitas has 24-Hour Armor, thanks to Xehanort.
Eli: Vanitas has the ability to give his emotions physical form. These creations are the Unversed. [..] the Unversed often just spilled out of him [...] Xehanort crafted a special helmet for Vanitas to keep his powers under control.
  • Power Copying:
    • Roxas.
Eli: Roxas shifts his feet & takes a fighting stance like Ven. Ven's fighting style is quick & unpredictable.
    • Kairi.
Eli: When Kairi's heart was inside of Sora, she experienced everything he did, including the battles. So, her skill with a Keyblade is comparable to where Sora was around the events of Hollow Bastion.
    • the Nu Heartless.
  • Power Parasite:
    • Xion. She can absorb the hearts of others &, in extent, their abilities.
Eli: In this story, Xion operates like a magnet. Nearby hearts that have no vessel are drawn to her & she's been specially designed to hold multiple hearts inside of her. She can use the hearts that she gathers to increase her own power or save them to be extracted later.
  • Power-Strain Blackout:
    • the first time Sora uses Aced's Status Buff, he overexerts himself.
    • the second encounter between Aqua & Vanitas.
  • Replaced with Replica: Roxas is granted a fake Keyblade.
Eli: The Keyblade that Roxas uses is only an imitation.
  • Stop, or I Shoot Myself!: Xion.
  • Summon Magic: Bahamut in Birth By Sleep.
  • The Exile: Pete is banished from Disneytown for breaking the Cornerstone of Light.
  • Unintentional Backup Plan: Aqua creating four keyblades & hiding Ventus in Hollow Bastion.
