Pedal ‘N’ Tools

Abuelito gifts Manny a bike he (Manny) used to ride as a child; after fixing it up, Manny takes the bike to the park, where he encounters Luigi, the owner of a hot-dog stand- and discovers that the (supposedly) dearly-beloved vendor is set to retire. Manny and the tools can’t bear to see him go, but how can they keep him in business?

”Pedal ‘N’ Tools” includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Audible Gleam: Manny’s old bike emits one after him and the tools fix it up.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • The bags Mr. Lopart uses to hold the candy scooped from his barrel are the same bags that Mrs. Bouffant’s candy was contained in in the last episode.
    • Once again, Elliot can be seen skateboarding in the park.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Lyle and Leland Lopart can be seen playing in the park.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Manny has one when he realizes that he can combine his bike with Luigi’s hot dog cart in order to help Luigi stay in business.
  • Fantasy Helmet Enforcement: Manny refuses to ride his old bike without a helmet, and goes to Kelly’s hardware store to pick one up.
  • Furry Confusion: Manny can be seen holding an inanimate wrench at one point during the episode’s “We Work Together” sequence.
  • Hard-Work Montage: While these are nothing new for Handy Manny this episode contains, oddly enough, a hard-work montage that isn’t set to “We Work Together”, in the form of Manny and the tools fixing up his old bike.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: When Manny hopes that his old bike isn’t in too bad a shape.
Manny: Well, maybe it’s not as bad as it looks.
(The bike’s handlebars come off in his hands)
  • Offscreen Crash: The barrel Mr. Lopart had gotten stuck in (It Makes Sense in Context) falling over and dumping him out is presented this way.
  • One Size Fits All: Somehow, the bike Manny rode as a small child is large enough that he can comfortably ride it as an adult, as can Luigi.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Luigi, the owner of a hot dog stand, is an especially bad case of this, as the tools mention how they see him “every time they go to the park”, despite several prior episodes having been set in the park with no trace of him in sight.
  • Stock Foreign Name: The Italian owner of a hot dog stand is named Luigi.
  • We Sell Everything: For some reason, Kelly sells triangles (the instrument) and cowbells. And bike helmets, too. Oh, and bicycle bells, although that’s slightly more plausible.

Cock-A-Doodle-Doo

Elliot has a new pet rooster named Milton, which he won at a county fair. Elliot wants Manny to build a chicken coop for Milton- unfortunately, that chicken coop might not last, as Milton’s crowing at dawn has been disturbing all of Elliot’s neighbors, and, unless he can find a solution, Elliot will be forced to give Milton up.

”Cock-A-Doodle Doo” provides instances of:

  • Absurd Phobia: Rusty is scared of roosters.
  • Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: Milton the rooster is a rather improbable combination of yellow and dull blue (and bright red, although those parts are a bit more excusable).
  • Blatant Lies:
Mr. Lopart: We Loparts are experts when it comes to light bulbs. Light Bulb Leonard Lopart, they call me.
  • Cock-a-Doodle Dawn: Elliot has a new pet rooster, which crows every sunrise… much to the dismay of Elliot, Kelly, and Elliot’s neighbors, who would rather not be awoken at dawn. By the end of the episode, Manny has figured out a way to keep the rooster from crowing until a more reasonable hour.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Manny has an idea for how to keep Milton (Elliot’s pet rooster) from waking up everyone in the neighborhood with his crowing:
Manny: But what if he didn’t see the sun rise?
Kelly: What do you mean, Manny?
Pat: Manny’s going to stop the sun!
  • Continuity Nod: When the tools are having their “noisiness competition”, Pat loudly drums on a bucket.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: One happens after Elliot exclaims that Milton can stay, and Milton responds by crowing loudly.
  • Everything Is an Instrument: Well, sort of- theoretically, the “noisiness contest” was about being loud, not making music, but when all the tools involved in the contest get going at once, they automatically align their “playing” to a musical “rhythm”, and the tools not involved in making noise were “dancing”, so Felipe, Turner, and Pat were theoretically making “music” by (respectively) jumping up and down on a jar of screws, jumping up and down on a metal paint tray, and banging on a plastic bucket.
  • Gosh Darn It to Heck!: This is used rather humorously, as Mr. Lopart says “oh fudge” after his attempt to create a new display of his shop’s fudge goes awry.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong:
    Manny: He’s not crowing.
    Elliot: Yes! Milton can stay!
    //Milton crows loudly//
  • Sleep Deprivation: Kelly is seen to be dealing with this, due to Milton’s crowing waking her up at ungodly hours of the morning.
  • Sleep Mask: During a scene of various sleeping townsfolk being awoken by Milton, Mr. Lopart is shown to wear one.
  • Stock Sound Effects: Somehow, during the tools’ “noisiness contest”, Stretch is able to produce the stock “party noisemaker” sound by extending his tape a certain way.
  • Third Time's The Charm: Three attempts are made to get Milton to stop crowing at dawn and waking everyone up- Manny builds him a nice new chicken coop, Elliot tries feeding him earlier to see if he’s crowing from hunger, and Manny adds a door to the chicken coop to prevent Milton from seeing the sun rise. Unsurprisingly, it’s the third one that works.
  • Trying Not to Cry: The tools all do this when it seems like Elliot will have to give Milton up, due to his crowing disturbing the neighborhood.
Felipe: I don’t want to cry. It will make me rust.
