The Garfield Movie (2024)

Trailer and page are up for the new Garfield movie:

Oh dear god!

There sure were a lot of clips that trailer played multiple times in its brief duration.

I see that Garfield's mouth moves now when he talks (which was the case in the live-action movies but not any the animated Garfield media as far as I know).

There was the Garfield Animated Movie Trilogy and the European Garfield series. Basically, all the CG media.

That last part was for a contest or something. I doubt they’ll be in the trailer when it’s playing in front of movies.

Aw, but I like it when he talks without moving his mouth. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

The movie looks cute, though. :)

...I don't know if the loss of my other cat week ago amplified it for me or something, but...

That beginning of trailer... actually hit me in the feelings very hard. I was already interested about this movie, but this trailer just increased it.

I suspect Garfield will get some Adaptational Heroism as usual, since his Jerkass personality from the comics that works well in three-panel strips doesn't translate well to being a movie protagonist.

The whole thing about Chris Pratt voicing everybody was supposed to be a joke, right?

Well, Garfield seems like the type of character befitting Pratt.

Was it just me or do Jon and Odie kinda look how they did in the first couple years in the comic? Albeit in CGI form.

Also, absolutely no to Chris Pratt as Garfield.

Honestly, he’s not that bad. I’m willing to wait for the finished product.

Okay, Pratt ended up working okay as Mario, but Garfield? Ehh... I dunno.

The first half of the trailer was beautiful, though. Movie itself looks alright.

EDIT: Holy crap, just looked at the page, apparently this has the same director and writer of Emperor's New Groove? Dang, this has my attention.

Gonna try and identify the tropes where Garfield states that HE adopted Jon instead of the other way around and how there’s a Garfield parade float in the trailer.

I loved it. Made me cry. My orange boy jonesy passed last month and we still miss him terribly. Will definitely be watching when it comes to streaming with our other 2 cats (both girls).

Heh, reminds me of Dwarf Fortress where the normal pet adoption message is "[Dwarf] has adopted [animal]" but it's reversed for cats.

Well that first half was certainly not what I was expecting from a modern animated Garfield movie and was actually starting to intrigue me. Then the comedy started and I cant say I'm feeling it.

I’m sure the finished film’s comedy will be more appealing to you.

You guys think they’re gonna keep that “The weight is over” tagline?

So, how's Chris' Garfield faring compared to Lorenzo Music and Frank Welker's takes?

Eh, some like it, some don’t. I’m personally good with it.

Bill Murray made a better Garfield, and I didn't like Bill Murray's take much.

This is apparently releasing the same day as Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and and at least one person on Twitter is calling to make it the next Barbenheimer.

"Apesfield"? "Garfapes"?

I'm not terribly interested in this, but seeing some of the Emperor's New Groove crew take part sort of got my interest.

Animation is pretty solid too.
