Where the fuck is Loan Tran? Did the trolls scare her off on this, too?

Who is she, and what does she have to do with this?

EDIT: Oh, you're talking about Kelly Marie Tran. Yeah, I have no idea why she was replaced by Mindy Kaling.

I find it interesting how one of the animation studios for this series is Icon Creative Studios. When it comes to Disney, they've mainly worked on Disney Junior shows. This is their first non-Disney Junior show for the company (though they've made older skewing kids shows outside of Disney).

Speaking of the animation, it's actually quite good. It's almost movie quality, much like the Netflix-exclusive DreamWorks shows. The show's executive producer is Bobs Gannaway, who has previously worked on Disney shows, such as Timon & Pumbaa, 101 Dalmatians: The Series, House of Mouse, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Lilo & Stitch: The Series, and Mickey Mouse Mixed-Up Adventures. He also directed Planes and its sequel, Planes: Fire & Rescue, and he was director, executive producer and storyboard artist on Jake and the Never Land Pirates.

He didn't work on Mickey Mouse Mixed Up Adventures. Rob La Duca & Mark Seidenberg (who worked with him on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Jake And The Neverland Pirates) were the showrunners there.

So I watched the first two episodes. They were okay. The team of MIFT are kind of too wacky feeling for the Monsters Inc. world, and I don't really care for the main Monster of the series right now. I do really enjoy Mike and Sully's plot of trying to run the factory. Fungus being Mike's assistant is a nice touch, though he sounds nothing like Frank Oz.

I like Tyler. The whole "graduated well out of college, only to find no employment" premise seems is very millennial focused. He's fairly generic, but not too much so for the kind of show this is, he carries plots decently well,

That said, I'll admit kind of... generically nice. Like, he's ambitious, but non-aggressively so. He's annoyed by the people around him, but non-confrontational. He feels he deserves more, but is nearly passive about things. So things mostly happen to him, not because of him, which isn't great for a main character in the long term, so I hope changes in upcoming episodes.

I'd agree that Mike and Sulley's plots have all been the best parts of the episodes so far. I like the way they're keeping the power shortage plot going: laughter is better than screams, sure, but they have barely any people capable of doing that, so it balances out the same so far.

@Jess: Huh, that's what the Disney Wiki's article on Gannaway said. Guess they were wrong (shrugs).

But yeah, I thought the first two episodes were a decent start to the show, though I kinda have to agree that I don't really care for the new characters at the moment.

I wonder if Mike's musical number was a bit they wrote and animated early, but couldn't find a spot to fit into after writing the rest of the episode(s), but didn't want to delete so they just stuffed it onto the end of an episode like a stinger.

I liked the third episode. The baseball game with all its wild and different monster designs was definitely the best part.

The left fielder being a literal big, green monster made me laugh more than it probably should have.

So I'm finally caught up on this show. I think it's a lot of fun and I'm glad they decided to make the premise be about the factory's transition from scares to laughs. Fills in a lot of gaps between the movie's climax and the time skip at the end. I do agree that the B-plot with Mike and Sulley is definitely the best part of the show, though, but I still find the A-plot with Tylor enjoyable if kind of cliche and I think it's a good extension of that premise to show how these events would affect those outside of the main cast.

Interested to read that, apparently, Boo won't be showing up. While this doesn't really surprise me, especially since I was expecting the show to end before the time skip, there's a part of me still kind of hoping we get hints of Mike's plan to rebuild the door for Sulley, even if we don't get to see what happens after the fact.

I'm gonna be honest, this latest episode made me realize just how boring I'm finding this show. I guess I'm so used to a show setting up plots and following through with them, that when a show creates a plot and then basically avoids it for silly distractions that don't do anything at all, it makes me wonder why you set up the plot at all, or why we have these distraction plots that do nothing for the over all plot.

Also this episode is the first time I didn't care at all about the Mike/Sully stuff.

I really liked this last episode. The design of the inspector, especially. Heads up that there's a lot more Black Comedy (or, at least, comedy centered around comical amorality) in this episode compared to the others, though.

Interestingly, this episode establishes that Monsters Inc may have switched over to laugh power, but they're still trying to convince the rest of the Monster world that their way is sound.

This show... is not good. Especially when you compare it to the original film which was a masterpiece.

None of the MIFTers are likable, Val Little and Fritz are annoying and disrespectful to Tylor's personal space, Tylor himself is a bland protagonist and a doormat, Duncan is an asshole and Cutter doesn't get much screen time.

It's honestly not fun watching Tylor get antagonized by his co-workers and boss. Especially in the last episode where when Duncan becomes temporary supervisor he immediately abuses his powers to bully and belittle Tylor.

Honestly Duncan should have been fired at the end of the episode and Tylor shouldn't have vouched for him. I kinda hope that he'd start sticking up for himself against his obnoxious MIFT coworkers but it seems like the message will be for him to accept them as family or some nonsense like that.

I feel like I’m part it may just be that the show’s humor style may not be to your liking. The basic response to a lot of your problems with MIFT kind of come down to “that’s the joke,” so there’s a degree of YMMV there.

One thing I'm curious about is with how long the show will last. How many episodes was it greenlit for? How many seasons was it greenlit for? Hopefully, there's information about this soon.

This show has, so far, been greenlit for a 10-episode season. No idea if there will be more seasons.

And I've gotta admit, as the show goes on, I'm hating Duncan more and more; he's just so unlikable, even compared to the other one-note personalities in this show. [lol]

But other than that, I don't hate this show. It's not exactly laugh-out-loud funny, but it still gets a few chuckles outta me.

I really hate the Mike's comedy class outros. None of them are funny. And the bowling ep annoyed me. Fritz's strike shouldn't count because he stepped over the line, otherwise everyone would just bowl from like 5 inches away to get perfect games every time. I've noticed that in sports rivalry episodes if done badly they bend over backwards rewriting rules so the crappy team can get a win or a draw even if it doesn't make sense competitively.

[up][up]Yeah, I kinda agree. I was hoping the previous episode giving him focus was an attempt to give him at least a bit of Character Development and have him start to accept Tylor more, but the next episode had him continue to be at maximum dick. I'm not saying he has to change overnight and they can still keep him as more of Jerkass but I was at least hoping it would at least have led to something.

Other than that, I will say I enjoy the show, though. Yeah, it definitely isn't on the same level as the original film or anything, but I still find it to be generally cute and fun.

Duncan is the only character in the show I don’t like so far, mostly because he’s not only just one joke (like a lot of the characters, which is okay on its own in a show like this), but because he’s one joke that they insist on putting front and center in every episode.

At this point, either explicitly make him the primary antagonist or don’t.
