That synopsis reminds me of Sword Of The Stranger, but I doubt that's related to this.
I just watched the first episode and it was amazing
OH SHIT RIGHT IT CAME OUT TODAY
This show fucks. (Compliment)
Funny how there's some humor that wouldn't feel out of place in a Disney movie following F-bombs and dismemberment but that's actually my jam.
By the way, Netflix officially uploaded the one-hour first episode on YouTube, as a way of trying out the series.
Erm, am I the only one who feels that plot make no sence? Smuggling guns to Japan to owerthrew the Shogun... who, incidentally, have the largest gun-armed army in Japan, yeah. It seems that authors used a usual "noble samurai with swords against cowardly foreigners with guns", forgetting that in 16th century Japan actually crunched out muskets on the rate even surpassing European, and while Edo period isolation led to decline in firearms use (no major battles, most feudal armies seriously limited in size, and gunpowder is expencive), it remained the major military factor.
It follow the same sort of rules that Ghost of Tsushima does, where it is not period accurate worth shit but adheres more to the spirit of the genre to tell the story it wants.
Tbf that's more the genre as awohle. Like if you watch a western it's not going to be an actual accurate period drama about the actual wild wild west. Same with a samurai story.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Yeah, but it still ired me quite a bit when samurai are shown as honor-obsessed idiots, running with swords against gunmen. Especially appaling if its happening in XIX century; Boshin war was actually fought between mainly european-style troops of Shogunate and Tozama, and rifles and artillery were the decisive factor.
I think the more unbelivable thing is the amount of literacy amongst the cast.

Yasuke even had mechs. Onimusha and this show aren't as egregious.

Just started the series. On episode two. Love Brenda Song getting more work but it’s always gonna be weird hearing Anne Boonchuy/London Tipton’s voice in a sex scene.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.News from Variety: the show’s been renewed.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.Good it deserves it!
I’m not getting too excited… remember Inside Job?
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.Calling it now, none of the White Devils will have fathered Mizu. Her real mother will have been a white woman, maybe a wife or daughter of Skeffington or Routely, and a Japanese man will have been her father. There's been too much emphasis on Mizu's real mother vs the fake for the mystery of her identity to not mean anything. It would also emphasize how pointless Mizu's revenge ultimately was as it will all have been founded on a total lie beginning to end.

Oissu!Bold theory.
Maybe I’m being too cynical. Netflix made a video announcing season 2 to the world. They’re pretty much obligated to deliver.

The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire. With no footage being shown, it will probably take a long time to make. I'm guessing they'll need entirely new background environments and character models for London. Arcane is taking several years and they have the benefit of being able to reuse most of the environments and characters they already had from season 1.

Oissu!I have to ask, has anyone seen that one review of this show by that one guy, who ironically has "crtical" as his name? As I've heard it apparently takes the shows portrayal of the time periods horrendous casual racism and sexism, and tries to use it an example of why racial and cultural mingling is actually bad.
I have no idea which review you're referring to, but I could see someone getting the Accidental Aesop that white people are terrible and Japan was right to keep them out based on the very few white people in the series so far and Fowler staging a coup with a really Anvilicious speech about colonialism. Though my takeaway was that everyone is evil except Ringo, who is too dumb to be. Just like a supernatural creature, the White Devils were only able to operate because Japanese society wanted what they were selling.
London has the opportunity to introduce some nuance, though I'm guessing it's going to be portrayed as a Wretched Hive.

Oissu! It's this guy, and from the sound of it he was saying intermixing in general is bad.

I never bother paying attention to Critical Drinker…
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.Don't give that man a single solitary click or second of your time, he doesn't deserve it.
