I think it was a statute of limitations thing, the crimes happened too long ago for him to be convicted over.
At the very least, he'll never get mainstream animation work again because his public reputation is completely ruined.

He wasn't getting mainstream work even before this; that's why he had to go to Kickstarter.
He deserves to be in jail, but still, the fact he'll only get work from utter nobodies is probably a good thing.
