Yeah but they didnt need to treat him so terribly to have him give up his throne. Were plots about the rape camps of Wakanda which are apparenlty common but T'challa apparenlty wasnt aware off. Really neccesary?
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."With Spider-Man the writers/editorial have an obsession with nostalgia.
With Black Panther its instead an obsession with trying to be topical and politically/socially deep.
Why of course its necessary, we have to prop up the lame side-characters they are trying to turn into being bigger than BP.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."According to a bit of blurb for the Pride covers, one-time Avenger Lightning (aka "Living Lightning") will "be rejoining the team later this year in a yet-to-be announced new Avengers title.".
Here's hoping it's an Al Ewing thing.

Remember when Tosin was built up to be important and then didn’t do anything ever and also the next creative team ignored him?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersItaly
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWhose Tosin?
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."From an isolationist Wakandan village that didn't believe in technology but did believe in vibranium tattoos. He interacted with Shuri a bunch in the John Ridley era but didn't really do much of anything.
There was a worry that he'd replace T'Challa as Black Panther but then he didn't and as far as I know he hasn't appeared in the Eve Ewing run.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersHe was intended to be the next major franchise hero, and this included numerous attempts at shilling him from referring to him as the next "fan-favorite character", defeating Abomination in his Wakanda spotlight issue, and Shuri referring to him as "the future" despite all their encounters have him being nothing but mean to her and her brother.
His main personality is that he thinks he and his isolationist village are the "true Wakandans" and he also hates T'Challa constantly calling him a jackboot and a dictator.
Eve Ewing did state in interviews that she did plan on bringing him back but the book got cancelled before she could do so.
She did say in a pre-release interview that she wanted Wakanda to have its own superhero team so presumably he would have been involved in that with Beisa.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Hm. I feel perversely glad that didn't happen.
Shame the book got cancelled before it could really hit its stride. But good that Tosin is in obscure character limbo.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWasn’t isolationist, anti-technology tribe that hates T’Challa already M’Baku and the Jabari’s thing?
Edited by CheapMarzipan on May 7th 2024 at 11:03:17 AM
Yes.
Nobody ever claimed John Ridley had fresh new ideas for Black Panther.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThese guys are different because they are "anti-monarchy" so that makes them good and wise compared to the regressive and brutal Jabari. They wanted nothing to do with the kingdom and only came out after it was abolished and the whole spiel of "all Wakanda coming together" by the new democratic government.
M'Baku also got killed off in the Coates run by rogue Dora Milaje. They've now set up their own military junta in the Jabari Lands after killing off all their leaders to place themselves.
Yeah the books do not acknowledge the moral implications that the Dora invaded a sovereign land and forcibly installed themselves into power with brute force.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Ahahaha what? That sounds nuts. Also kinda weird considering how popular MCU M’Baku was.
The comics brought in MCU M'Baku as a space guy
Forever liveblogging the AvengersOh yeah, the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda arc, right?
Let's just say the movie success of Black Panther is not being considered at all where the comics is concerned. Especially with how poor T'Challa is treated.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Yup the Intergalactic arc, introduced new versions of M'Baku and Nakia more like their movie counterparts.
T'Challa was about to start something with Space-Nakia but nothing came of it because he always has to be hung up on Storm.
Despite Storm dating several men already, currently Craig of Nasa.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Truly weird Marvel decided to depict ultranationalists as the "good guys". Doesnt that lead to a bunch of very uncomfortable stuff later.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."They seemed to think that as long as they hated on T'Challa they were cool, but that only makes people hate them more.
Wake me up at your own risk.I'm still baffled they don't think the fanbase of Black Panther likes T'Challa more than Wakanda.
Wakanda is ultimately a setting in service of the main character, it's like Gotham and Batman. People tend to care more about characters than locations.
Sure, Wakanda has the potential for cultural significance but this is a super hero comic first and foremost, tearing down Black Panther to try to prop up the setting and characters the writer wants to be the stars is NOT endear readers.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. The problem with Black Panther is that either you do a series not set in Wakanda, and people moan about the lack of the cool Afrofuturist setting...
...or you set it in Wakanda, and have to untangle the mess that everything so far has made of the nation and its connection to T'Challa.
Man I’m really starting to hate the amount of Hidden Elf Village's with there Holier Than Thou Can't Argue with Elves attitude in the Marvel Universe. We have Atlantis, Wakanda, Attilan, formerly Genosha, Utopia, Krakoa, and just the general secluded superhuman's who think they’re better than everyone else and refuse to actually help the world.
Krakoa is the only one I don't totally hate because they did help, but they go up their own ass with the Mutants are better thing. I also hate that they labelled themselves "Homo Superior" and that’s apparently their actual scientific name.

It's gonna be fun on the bun! It's utterly bizarre how the BP writers clearly frame that concepts like nationalism, espionage, corruption of power, ect. are all perfectly okay as long as a democratic government is doing it.
Plus girlbosses. I'm convinced if Shuri was still queen they would have either kept thr monarchy or have abolish it in a more dignified way than T'Challa did. Like have her be aware of the rape camps and doing something about it unlike her brother.
I used this comparison before, these books are like if someone hates the British royal family but at the same time fanboys hard over Margaret Thatcher.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
The funny thing is, you could be talking about either Black Panther or Spider-Man. (Or Iron Man, but that's been about two decades ago and he's been rerailed since then.)
Trimming the hedges, one trope at a time.
