I have to land on Mun now, if nothing else but to see the memorial.

I've been planning to finally make a youtube video landing on the moon, dedicated to him. MANY others have beat me to the punch. I'm gonna look for that memorial though.

My problem is that I've yet to perfect a lander that can land, take off and have enough fuel for the return trip. Yeah, there's vids that explain how to do that, but pffft, I want to figure it out myself.

[up] Ditto. I really can wait until you make do space docking and planets. I want to build a interplanetary ship. I already have a space plane to haul up parts and, eventually, fuel and crew. I'd probably launch most of the parts via rocket.

I do want a way to work stages to deactivate engines. I have 2 turbo-jets on opposite sides that have to be turned off manually or ejected.

Docking will be very nifty; allowing you to build a space station in sections and whatnot. And when they add more planets, interplanetary trips will be viable - it is difficult to launch a singular rocket that can break orbit from Kerbin and make it back.

Hence the inter-planetary craft. I'm tempted to name it Enterprise, but that'd be a bit cliche. [lol]

Well, there's other names you can use - Constellation, Defiant, Excalibur, Exeter, Hood, Intrepid, Lexington, Kongo, Farragut, and Potemkin...

Intrepid works best, I think.

I named my recent one-kerbal rocket GIANT FLAMING ROCKET OF DOOM.

To my dismay, it actually worked. I got tons of fuel for orbital shennanigans, and I might be able to swing a fly-by of that second moon if I get my transfer orbit right...

Maybe I'll strap on some more boosters; those tend to muck stuff up if you have too many of them.

Fun Fact: Liquid-fueled booster packs are not worth the trouble.

my friend named his first try "death trap". it wasnt that bad.

the follow up with a good 200 fins and large liquid rocket at the bottom...not so much. [lol]

A few quad sets of fins is usually enough, unless your rocket simply can't get enough air velocity to actually use the fins.

Then you need RCS packs and a gob of RCS fuel at low speeds.

he didn't seem to realize that. he was strapping on as many as he could. you should seem them rain down when it exploded. [lol]

They overheat if they're crammed too close together, basically.

If you space them out, they won't overheat, but you usually have to set them up on decouplers so you can shed them once they're spent.

I basically limit them to just getting off the ground and up to about 10 kilometers or thereabouts. The higher I can get off of SRB's, the better, but I'm not going to lose sleep if I only manage 6k before shedding my last SRB's.

Experimented with two sets of SRB's briefly, and it's difficult (plus getting the staging to work right when you mash the spacebar is a royal pain). You'll need that much more on the bottom to lift the deadweight of the second set, and that adds risk of overheating the first set since you'll need a crapton of them. It sure looks cool, but there are more efficient ways to put something into orbit.

I don't have a computer so I can't play this, nor a credit card to buy it. But I follow Kurtjmac's Kerbal Space Program videos. And I would love to play this game.

They do have medals for almost, and they're called silver!

I got a Kerbal into orbit today.

...his rocket ran out of fuel before I could get it into a stable orbit, but since they all wear EVA packs, he's chilling in a nice orbit now.
