At first I didn't really like the Smurfs. However, as I watched the episodes in earnest, I began to see how the Smurfs acted as a community and even enjoyed its humor, although some episodes' humor fell flat ("A Hug For Grouchy" was the worst example). It reached its peak in Season 4 and started to dip in Season 5 with the introduction of the Smurflings, which was handled very badly as they de-aged three adult Smurfs (including regular Nat) to get three of the four Smurflings. Season 9 was when the creative well started to run dry, so the producers decided to devote that season entirely to time-traveling, which to no one's surprise (if you watched enough Saturday morning cartoon shows in the day) ended with no resolution. The cast of voices are great and worth listening to without the accompanying visuals.
WesternAnimation A good series that ended poorly
