Since we have a thread discussing the video game industry, I thought it would be appropriate to have a thread discussing the practices and going ons of the film and tv industries. Especially in light of recent news surrounding the sets of Batwoman and Rust.
This will not be about films and tv shows but rather about the practices and behind-the-scenes news affecting the industries.
People disregard an entire franchise just because of one bad movie?? They do that?
I don't understand that expression.

Some people will disregard an entire game franchise for one bad patch.
I mean that happened to the Xmen movies. Momentum picked up again in First Class, followed by Days of Future Past... everything whnt downhill when Apocalypse happened. You teeter on goodwill from an audience even from one bad chapter, a harsh truth
Pantheon server for all who click here. Freaking lost $410 and I am hunting down for a nuke to reign down. It's also possible, I think, to bounce back with an improved sequel. Though I do understand the fear that a series has dropped with a disappointing or especially, terrible, entry!
I can understand if they had a long string of bad movies, then yeah, that could tank the franchise. But, I don't understand how some people will say that the entire franchise is bad from just one bad movie. I mean, if the rest of the films are good, then that's what should matter, right?
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!Well, what if the last movie(s) took the franchise into a direction you don't like? Killing the popular characters you liked or doing a Time Skip changing the familiar setting you knew and loved?
This can't be fixed unless the next movie employ Time Travel or Alternate Universe.

Every Hero has his own way of eating yogurtNews on the Paramount front: Reuters is saying that Paramount is not extending the exclusive negotiating period with Skydance after Sony and Apollo’s $26 billion bid.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.Bumping, because according to Variety, it looks like Paramount isn’t taking either deal. Not Apollo/Sony, not Skydance. https://variety.com/2024/biz/news/paramount-global-reject-skydance-sony-apollo-offers-1235991298/
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.Well, finding anyone else to make such a big offer will be a tall order.
Wake me up at your own risk.Got news from Deadline: A committee at Paramount will negotiate with Sony and Apollo but Skydance will continue negotiating as well. Also, James Cameron supports Skydance.
Other news: Deadline’s saying DreamWorks has struck a deal with a group called Story Kitchen to acquire video game IP for adaptation.

The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire. So, why do movie and TV studios nowadays have this mentality about how the movies and TV shows have to be automatic successes or else, they will be cancelled or be denied a sequel? Like, I find this to be unfair because many people are not going to watch a movie or TV show on the day it's released. It might take them some time to get around to watching a movie or a TV series, especially if it's something relatively new to the audience and they still haven't gotten used to the characters or the stories yet.
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!It does seem like most ceos and shareholders have become much less patient in recent years.
I blame cell phones. Making old men so impatient… the boomers CRAVE instant gratification!

The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.
Yeah. It's like they don't want to wait for a movie to gradually earn money anymore.
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!Have you guys heard about movies being Not Screened for Critics… selectively? Like leaving out SOME but not ALL critics? Certain regional critics in major cities being left out?
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire. No, this is the first time I've heard about this. Did they just recently started this?
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!Some critic on Twitter is saying it’s happening with IF (2024). I dunno if it’s a new trend.

The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.Wouldn't that hurt the movie IF's chances of making it big in the box office, if only a few critics showed up?
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!Can you cite the tweet or at least gather more information on who this critic is?
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position. His name is Daniel Howet from Las Vegas. He works for Next Best Picture. This is his tweet with the news: https://x.com/howatdk/status/1787983111428657551?s=46&t=7YT7yMPCw2VMMwQUxWj5_A

The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.Thanks.
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position. Not at all.
Really the idea of deliberate exclusion really doesn’t make sense to me. Especially if people will still be reviewing the movie anyway.
The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.I think I heard someone in France complaining about this kind of behavior last year (or maybe earlier than that).
Apparently it's harder for some critics, who are more likely to make negative reviews, to be invited to pre-releases. The reasonings seems to have only positive reviews when the film comes out, to help it have a good start. "Lack of confidence in the film", as said in the tweet, seems to be the main reason.
Which is sad. Like, I know that people want to see good movies being made, but if a movie franchise has one bad movie, then apparently, people disregard the entire franchise, despite the fact that there was only one bad movie.
EDIT: First post on the new page! And I'm responding to this statement.
